PRESENT RESEARCH ACTIVITY

Research activity in the Stress Physiology Lab is mainly focused on the biological substrates of depression/anxiety and autonomic/cardiovascular dysfunction comorbidity. This topic is approached via preclinical research on animal models of depression (based on adverse social conditions) and anxiety (based on lines selectively bred). Proendocannabinoid pharmacological treatment (FAAH inhibition) is tested to verify its pevention/reversal potential over behavioral and physiological symptoms of anxiety/depression as well as over autonomic/cardiovascular dysfunction. Part of the lab research activity is also devoted to the evaluation of a number of chronic stress parameters in various human populations. Ongoing collaborations: (a) Dept of Behavioral Physiology - Univ. Groningen (NL; profs. S. De Boer and P. Meerlo), (b) Dept. of Neurobiology and Animal Physiology - Univ. Regensburg (GER; prof. I. Neumann), (c) Dept. of Psychology - NWU Chicago (USA; prof. A. Grippo), (d) Dept. of Pharmacy - Univ. of Parma (IT; profs. M. Mor and S. Rivara), (e) CRLN, Lyon (FR; prof. P.F. Ferrari).
